Reproduction Civil War Tarred Haversack

This is a Reproduction haversack like those used during the Civil War. This one is made after the standard regulation haversack issued to Union troops. It is made of canvas that has had black tar applied to it. This was done to help waterproof the haversacks. A soldier usually carried his personal items in his haversack, mess gear, tobacco and smoking paraphernalia, a days rations and things of that nature. This on has a single button sewn on the inside, most have three. These were used to button in a cloth liner. The outer flap is secured closed by a strap and single roller buckle. This one can be used to portray Union or Confederate soldiers and is in like new condition.
